High porosity hair has cuticles that are lifted, raised, or damaged, often as a result of heat styling, colouring, chemical processing, or genetics. Moisture enters the hair shaft quickly, but it also escapes just as fast. The hair feels rough, dry, frizzy and brittle, and no matter how much conditioner or leave-in you apply, the hydration never seems to last.
Medium porosity hair sits between the two extremes. It absorbs moisture reasonably well but can struggle to retain it consistently, particularly in dry weather, after heat styling, or as the hair ages.
